Talking DRAMA! & heightened INENSITY! of Weaponry,Armour and Drops.

As much as i love Guild Wars. One small thing that bugs me is the feeble drops, and surplus of disposable "what use is

that too me" items that you find whilst questing.

I mean when i buy a key to a chest, i expect the bloody contents of whatever chest i should come by, to knock my god-

damn socks off!.

I want to be jumping up and down going "OMFG!!!!, WOW, i cannot believe i found this" , "this is INCREDIABLE", wow wait

till i show everyone else, wow wow wow.

However 90% of the time upon opening a chest, even in the most remote and heavily fortified locations, out "pops" a

wee Gold "Staff Of Uselessness" 14-20 dmg 10% chance of excitement.

Y A W N !

errr man how am i going to get rid of this.. my god ive been scammed.
two hours of insane corsair slaying, and this is my REWARD , im going to
town to whinge and pick on Noobs now.

I want a weapon or a even *shock horror* a FREE PIECE OF ARMOUR, that

is so god damn huge, insanly unique in appearance, swirling with coloured auras, lights, detailed from top to

botton.....whatever.

I want it to make my jaw hit the ground ! , to have my find feel like a genuine, absolute "SCORE".

I want to be so pyched out about it, that there is a need to race to tell my guild "lets meet up in the hall and come check it out" !!.......

And it does not have to be Weaponry.

Guild Wars players are LOVERS of novelty, we like things like minipets, that serve no other purpose other then their

absolute pure COOLNESS!.

This factor could be greatly extended upon, and practically offers a entire platter of creative idea's to be investigated.

There is a world of unique, cool and impressive "items" that could yet be included within the Guild Wars game world.

In short. Guild Wars is too stingy with it's rewards........

MORE items, weather benifical to gameplay or purely for entertainment.

Greater intensity ! , Greater dramatic and impacting weaponry!

Further stunning Armour! , more AWE INDUCING SPELL EFFECTS, ones that blow people away.

I can understand the need for restraint in this regards as obviously giving away too much, too soon can in effect destory

the delicate balancing act of contrast. However Guild Wars, seems a little to skewed towards the holding-out of the

goodies.

Less is more, agreed. The balance within the game world is apparent, but it

need's further drama , greater frequency and intensity of spell effects

(visually and otherwise) .

Greater attention paid to the differentiation of armour, weaponry, personal items

and customisation of the invidual character.

Cheers

okay...ahem..so yea... *tumbleweed*

i think this should be in the Serdelac forum, but anyway, i still dont understand what your trying to get at here. They dont call rare items RARE for nothing, that makes them wanted.

If rarer items popped up as you say you would like...can you say The Great Depression of Guild Wars? It would be a total economy crash of an already broken economy.

As for armor, maybe you should be playing another online game, and im not going to say the name of it but you know what it is.

Furthermore, about the whole more dazzling and awe inspring spells thing...
You see classes in Guild Wars dont have class upgrades (knight -> paladin as a bad example) therefore nothing can be changed since each class is just...the class. Nothing more and nothing less, only what the player makes it.

Simply not everyone has the best PC out there, and not all can handle amazing graphics the extent of graphic lag (we have enough server lag)

one thing though...what do you mean by drama

It's not a suggestion that the rarity of item's be altered, only that when you do actually come across a rare item, that it be worthwhile.

Drama =
any situation or series of events having vivid, emotional, conflicting, or striking interest or results, the quality of being dramatic.

And as for PC spec's, well that is always tailorable via config settings and options. Those with higher-spec's machines
should not be disadvantaged becuase of those who do not have suitable specs. However that goes both ways, those with lower-end PC's , should be able to tailor their settings, as Guild Wars already makes possible.

How someone can ever get that out of a game, i will never comprehend

An item is only as worthwile as a player makes it.

Ok then perhaps your missing the point.

Drama is found in movies ? yes. Drama is found within video-games , otherwise there would be no experience.

Guild Wars is entirely based on drama and emotionality, why otherwise why would you pursue the storyline ? .

Even if it is on the most sublte of level's, you are engaged in a illusion of a "Fight" against "Foes", that in and of itself is "drama"

Obviously your interpretation is different, which is fine, each to their own.

As for drama in the context of a "item" or weapon

That would refer to the impact and excitement that is conveyed upon making use of the item. That would equal "drama'

A more "dramatic" weapon would have a greater emotional impact (excitment, satisfaction, curiosity, surprise) and

heightened level of percieved effect.

If everything were dramatic, everything would be ordinary by comparison.

Are you talking about something like Fiery dragon swords? Or maybe a tormentor weapon (never seen one in-game but heard they are quite "dramatic")

Isn't excitment, satisfaction, curiosity, surprise all a "one time" effect? I mean, the first time I saw a fiery dragon sword it looked like a really cool weapon. Same goes for a fire staff. Getting max armor was very exciting, now I just buy it when I feel like it. My first 15k armor was something that took me weeks to save up. Now all my usually played chars (5) have one or more 15k sets. No more excitement, curiosity, suprise like the first time (let alone satisfaction).

Conclusion: the excitement wears off. Maybe if the drops would be mixed (for example, the hilt of a fiery dragon sword with the blade of a fellblade) there might be more excitement but I don't think it's something do-able.

As frustrating as it is to have my Warrior primary constantly open chests full of non-Warrior weapons and off-hands... it just makes it more special when that perfect shield or sword pops up. As long as it is completely random and fair - I'm cool with the way it is right now.

Besides all the above, If you should get more WOW drops, drops arn't that WOW any more and certainly not as valuable. I mean if instead of 2% of the drops 80% of the drops are WOW then whats the use of drops? after 25 mobs you've got everyting you desire.

I do have to admit that I get a rather perverse sense of satisfaction when a rare 10-20 wand of Charslaying drops from a chest in Fissure, I am also aware that it just serves to make me that much more pleased when I do get a good drop. That is plenty of drama for me.

As much as I hate getting a non-max, 3-attribute staff (req domination, half cast earth, channeling +1, for example,) not EVERY chest should be somethign that you look at and fall in love with. The chests are a gamble, and there's the excitement of them. Most of the time, the stuff you get isn't worth the key, but every once in a while, you DO get that OMG WOW, this is the best thing EVER drop.

Drama comes mostly from anticipation, from not knowing. If every drop were incredible, then they would become commonplace. If ANet made every chest drop an unbelievably nice item, then to balance that, they'd need to make each chest location have only a 2% chance to actually spawn a chest... To keep the heightened sense of anticipation.

But not for each item to be a weapon, but let their be a keg of ale, maybe a pantry of sweets, or a rare-unique mini pet.

Just add some variety to the mix of what one can find in a chest or a monster drop.

Loot inflation would occur if drops were to be tweaked too much the way you propose.

And "elite" armor drops would go against the idea that everyone has/can have access to the same armor with out relying on chance/or time spent killing mobs.

I must admit, I'd rather have chests a chance to spawn a higher level monster on occasion if they would also improve their chance to drop character specific items.

I always seem to get rather "weak" Mesmer items...and I don't even have a Mesmer character :/

It's very random, maybe "too" random. Perhaps a tweak in the applicability tables for chests.

Alot of people do go back to playing WoW after realizing that the PvE side of GW is so stripped down and boring. The loot tables in GW hold back way too much, and I know what you mean about not feeling any excitement 90% of the time when an item drops. Most of it is just mountains of vendor trash.

You hit level 20 and finally get that max armor to go with your max weapon that you have had for ages, after that there is nothing left except for useless titles and quests that feel more like a grind than an exciting adventure.

I agree that GW needs to give you more to work for as far as armor is concerned, besides the stuff that you can buy. It would also not hurt to give you more useful items to work for as well. Too much of the crap that you work to attain in this game is for pure vanity, and that to me is LAME.

If you consider reaching 20 and getting max weapon end of game, then yes, WoW is the answer. WoW offers great deal of gameplay for people who play to max their gear. GW offers nothing to those who play only for that. And I wouldn't consider WoW an exciting adventure and GW a grind.

And I can't sign or unsign, since I don't understand the OP's point.
